Description

Gran Prix Challenge 2017

Presented by the NU McCormick School of Engineering, EvanSTEM and the City of Evanston

Design, Test, Build, Race, Prototype, Torch, 3-D print, Crush.

(i) 3D Print a House : Teams design the strongest and most detailed house they can using TinkerCAD. Two prizes will be awarded. The first prize goes to the strongest house, tested by the weight it can take on the top before failure. The second prize goes to the most creative aesthetic design.

(ii) The Great Boat Battle : Teams fit pre-made boats with different types of propulsion mechanisms such as fans powered with solar cells, fuel cells or chemical reaction derived propulsion. The boats will then be raced and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

(iii) (Safe) RESIST: Don’t Melt My Shopkin: Teams construct fire-resistant structure(s) with a variety of provided materials. These structures will then be tested (by volunteers) for fire resistance in a controlled environment outdoors ( such as a plexiglass container ) and prizes will be awarded to the structures with the best tolerance to fire.
